Toronto Chinese Dance Academy

The Toronto Chinese Dance Academy (TCDA) was established in 1990 by Yan Lam, and specializes in high quality instruction in Chinese Classical and Folk dances. Classes are offered from introductory beginner to professional levels, for Children, Teens, and Adults.

Our faculty of caring, experienced professionals are experts in their fields and certified by the Beijing Dance Academy Examination Centre. Classes are conducted in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin. Students are trained in classical and national folk techniques, rhythm, musicality, and repertoire, in accordance to the Chinese dance curriculum of the Beijing Dance Academy. The Academy is one of only a few dance schools in North America to offer a Chinese dance exam certification option for students, in the Beijing Dance Academy Chinese Dance Examination Syllabus. Annual recital and regular public performance opportunities are provided. Costumes for performances are also provided by the Academy. Students of all cultures and genders are welcomed.

Our students have won numerous awards and recognitions in dance competitions and festivals, and have ample opportunities to perform publicly in community and arts events. Advanced students have the opportunity to join the Toronto Chinese Dance Company, and to further their studies at the Beijing Dance Academy in China.

The Toronto Chinese Dance Academy also pioneers in the promoting of cultural interchanges, through presentations of public seminars and workshops on Chinese dance, such as our Classical Dance Workshop Series on Body Aesthetics and Water Sleeves.
